Contentful in Depth. From First Sketch to Ongoing Operations

Contentful is one of the most capable headless CMS platforms available. Its true depth only shows when you master it – in modelling, integration, and operations.

    Why Contentful

And Who It’s the Right Choice For

Contentful is not a CMS for everyone. It is an enterprise-grade headless CMS built for organisations with complex content architectures, multiple channels, and demanding integration requirements. The platform is deliberately un-opinionated – it does not prescribe a fixed page structure, but offers a flexible content model that can be adapted to almost any requirement.

Planning a Contentful Project? Let’s Talk.

Whether a new project, a migration, or support for an existing Contentful instance – we come with technical depth and practical experience from real enterprise projects. An initial conversation costs nothing and brings clarity.

This makes Contentful extremely powerful – and simultaneously requires an experienced implementation partner who can channel that flexibility purposefully. Poorly modelled Contentful instances become increasingly unmanageable over time. Well-modelled Contentful instances scale for years. The difference lies in the expertise of the team that built them.

    What We Build with Contentful

Contentful is versatile. These are the use cases where we deploy it most often.

    • Enterprise Websites & Multisite Platforms

Content hubs for international brands with multiple country websites, a shared content pool, and market-specific localisation from a single Contentful instance.

    • Content-Commerce Integrations

Contentful as the editorial layer over commerce platforms like Medusa, commercetools or Shopify – for premium shopping experiences that are content-rich and performant at the same time.

    • Data Synchronisation Layers

Regular synchronisation of data from legacy systems, CRMs, or ERPs into Contentful – so editors can work with current data in their familiar environment.

    • Modular Design Systems

Component-based content models that map directly onto the design system – for consistent visual output and editorial flexibility without developer involvement.

    • Multi-Language & Multi-Market

Contentful architectures for clients with multiple languages, regions, and audiences – with clear separation between global content and local customisation.

    • Custom UI Extensions & Apps

Bespoke extensions of the Contentful editor for industry-specific workflows – when the standard is insufficient and a custom field type or app significantly simplifies editorial work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Contentful and Our Partnership

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

Contentful is particularly suited to mid-size to large organisations with multiple channels, multi-language requirements, and the need for flexible, scalable content architectures. It is less suitable for simple, static websites with small editorial teams – here a simpler platform would be more cost-efficient. Bright Global supports an honest assessment: we recommend Contentful when it genuinely fits, and name alternatives when it does not.

    Discuss a Contentful Project

Our Contentful Expertise – Across the Full Project Lifecycle

From the strategy phase to ongoing operations – we are the right partner at every stage of the project.

Planning & Architecture: Getting the Decisions Right at the Start

The most expensive mistakes in a Contentful project are made in the planning phase – when they are not yet visible.

We support clients in evaluating whether Contentful is the right fit for their project, in defining the content strategy, in selecting the appropriate Contentful edition (Free, Basic, Premium, Enterprise), and in architecture decisions: single space vs. multi-space, mono-locale vs. multi-locale, which content belongs in Contentful and which is better kept in specialist systems.

We also help ask the right questions of Contentful itself – and support vendor evaluations with technical depth.

Content Modelling: The Foundation Everything Else Builds On

Content modelling is the discipline that determines the long-term success of a Contentful implementation.

A good content model is clearly structured, intuitively usable for editors, cleanly referenceable technically, and built to grow with the project. We develop content models for organisations of all sizes – from straightforward marketing websites to complex multi-channel platforms with dozens of content types, multiple dimensions (country, locale, segment), and thousands of entries.

We also build custom UI extensions for the Contentful editor when standard fields are not sufficient – as we did for Mischek and SWAROVSKI OPTIK.

Implementation: From Configuration to Production Readiness

We deliver complete Contentful implementations – from initial space setup and content modelling through to full frontend integration.

Our implementations are optimised for performance: robust sitemap architectures, efficient content caching, server-side rendering for SEO, and fast time-to-interactive.

We work with React, Next.js, and TypeScript as the preferred frontend stack – the same stack on which the SWAROVSKI OPTIK platform with 100k+ pages runs. For every implementation we set up complete staging and production environments, including CI/CD pipeline and preview infrastructure for editorial preview.

Integrations: Contentful as Part of a Larger System

Contentful unfolds its full strength as part of a well-chosen technology ecosystem. We integrate Contentful with commerce platforms (commercetools, Shopify), DAM systems (Cloudinary), CRM (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics), ERP systems, marketing automation tools (ActiveCampaign, Optimizely Campaign), and industry-specific legacy systems.

A particular pattern from our practice: we regularly synchronise data from external systems into Contentful – so that editors can work with that data in their familiar CMS environment and enrich it with marketing content, without touching the source system.

This decoupling avoids performance dependencies and significantly increases stability.

Operations, Extension & Replatforming: The Partnership After Go-live

Most Contentful projects change substantially after go-live – new requirements, new channels, new integrations, growing content volumes. We remain the technical point of contact: for proactive platform care, regular Contentful upgrades, content model extensions, onboarding of new market countries or languages, and migrating additional content.

We also support replatforming scenarios – when an existing system needs to migrate to Contentful, or when content from an existing Contentful instance needs to be transferred to a new architecture. And if Contentful is no longer the right fit at some point: we say so, and help plan an orderly transition.

    Built by Bright Global: Arboretum

One of the Most Popular Contentful Apps

Managing complex website hierarchies is one of the most underestimated challenges in large Contentful projects. Contentful itself does not provide a native sitemap view – editors working on multi-hundred-page websites have no visual overview of their content structure.

We built Arboretum to solve this problem. It is a Contentful app that adds a powerful, visual sitemap directly inside the Contentful UI – showing the full page hierarchy, enabling editors to navigate, manage, and restructure their site with confidence.
