    The Problem: A Monolith as a Golden Cage

    SWAROVSKI OPTIK had a clear vision – a digital experience matching the quality of their products. Rich imagery, video, personalised content for hunters and birdwatchers, D2C commerce across 16 countries. The reality: a legacy monolith that paralysed every development effort. New features took months. IT infrastructure was shared with a sister company, not designed for a small, agile e-commerce team. They knew exactly what to build. The foundation simply would not allow it.

    The Decision: MACH from Day One

    The answer was a complete replacement of the monolith with a MACH-based stack – Contentful as the headless CMS, commercetools as the commerce platform, AWS as cloud infrastructure. No more proprietary on-premise dependency. No more shared IT setup. The entire e-commerce and website infrastructure moved to the cloud. This enabled operational independence, fast scaling, and the freedom to choose the best tool for each job – rather than accepting the limits of an existing system. From decision to first go-live: eight months.

    The Execution: Precision in the Frontend, Depth in the Backend

    For a premium brand, the visual experience is everything – the frontend needed to be as good as the products. Bright Global built a custom, high-performance storefront in React.js and Node.js that combines data from Contentful, commercetools, and other systems in real time. Alongside it: purpose-built features including a 3D model viewer for new products, a guided selling tool for first-time buyers, a dealer locator with 3,500 worldwide locations, and a fully configured Intercom chatbot with custom extensions for repair status, order tracking, and product guidance. All custom developments are hosted and maintained by Bright Global on AWS.
